Hi! I’m Catherine Baird :)

And I am tickled that you are taking the time to explore my website offerings.

A little about me in case you’re curious:

Outside of Drizzly Day Design, I am an actor and theatre artist currently based in Pittsburgh, PA.

I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with dual degrees in Public Health Advocacy and Dramatic Arts, which led me to touring nationally with Jump with Jill, the world’s only rock & roll nutrition show. Below you’ll see how this adventure led me to web design.

Since then, I’ve been ramping up my web design work while simultaneously working with numerous regional and local Pittsburgh theatre companies, and I’ve even started teaching and directing! Lots more details on my personal site here.

All that to say I ADORE theatre, but really all art forms.

I am so thankful to get to help fellow artists share their brilliance.

As a Squarespace web designer, I empower creative thinkers with custom websites that stand out in the digital landscape.

A strong believer in artist agency, I also teach my clients the basics of how to manage and grow their own sites.

My Journey into Web Design

My first website was for Jump with Jill, the world’s only rock & roll nutrition show, where I worked as a Touring Cast Member and then the Media Development Specialist. After COVID shut our national tour down, we created Jump with Jill: The Movie! and a digital program that empowered teachers to incorporate nutrition education and movement into the classroom.

Since the pre-existing website no longer served our virtual model, we decided to overhaul our old website and start from scratch. Now, I had never made any sort of website before, so you can imagine that being asked to spearhead this undertaking was a little intimidating. It was slow going, but I started to really enjoy puzzle piecing everything I knew about the brand into a visually appealing and user-friendly site.

After finishing that site, I thought, why not use my new skills to make myself an online portfolio? Immediately, I discovered it to be a huge convenience - my performer assets were suddenly (not suddenly; it took a lot of time) in one place, and it was styled to fit my personality! Cool! Pretty soon, I had friends asking for websites of their own, and wow have I gotten to work with some awesome folks since then!

But how come… Drizzly Day???

Whenever I’m asked, “If you were to get a tattoo, what would it be?” my answer is always a little umbrella. Why? Well, I see them as a squishy little metaphor:

A bubble of hope in the midst of a storm

And that’s how I see art in our tumultuous world. A bubble of happiness, a space for thought, a looking glass into others’ perspectives, a vehicle to stretch beyond comfort zones.

So when I was developing a business to serve artists, I kept returning to the umbrella image. And thus (while working through loads of imposter syndrome) Drizzly Day Design was born.

Now a note on “artists.” I believe (a la Julia Cameron in The Artist’s Way) that everyone, just by way of being human, is an artist. So when I talk about websites for artists, it’s more about the mindset of curiosity and creation than your title. If you or your organization vibe with the Drizzly Day Design experience, then we may work well together! Does that make sense?

Let’s get to know each other!
